Whew! I hope you like it!
No Good At Goodbyes
I told you on the day we started
Lover, don't you leave me broken-hearted
I just can't take it if you won't be true
I'm the kind who wants one lover
Won't you tell me that you want no other
My heart is beatin' baby just for you
I say hey, hi, I'll be lovin' you every night
I say hi, I'm no good at goodbyes
I'm no good at goodbyes
I'm real bad at goodbyes
Love is not a changing fashion
Love that's true is constantly in action
It won't stop even when the cows come home
The love I feel is for you only
Hold mr tight and please don't leave me lonely
The night's too long when I'm sleeping alone
Whew! I hope you like it!

PM sent, Kira.
BTW, which instrument[s] are you playing on that cut? And are you doing the singing, too? Just wondered.

I did all all instruments and vocals. My 320 for the more active part, my hotrod squier mini with a tele pickup for the windmill chordsjimk wrote:PM sent, Kira.

Thank you too, Brian.
Here's the two condensers at work with an idea I stole from Robert Johnson:

Wow Kira...Psychedelia meets Rockabilly with a very Beatle-esque finish. Did you take a bow at the end?

Re: "No Good At Goodbyes"
More of a slump... this one was the simplest and shortest (2:20) but the hardest and the most fun. I'm exhausted; I did all the vocals today.
The lyrics were actually the most fun because of the narrow design constraint. They had to sound mainstream, not tributary, I don't know if it worked... there were so many word cues I couldn't use. Hope it's not cliche.

Re: "No Good At Goodbyes"
Another one knocked out of the park, Kira! Great stuff! I liked the mobility of this piece, perpetually active. Nice lift of the Beatles on that ending, too! My only critique on the technical side is the harmony vocal sounded a little muddy & burried in some places. Also, and the end of the song, the guitar that was on the left side for the majority of the song reappears in the center of the stereo spectrum. Not sure if that was by design, but could appear as an oversight to those like me who get tripped up in the minutia.
Keep the hits coming!

Re: "No Good At Goodbyes"
Thanks for the praise, Mark. And thanks for pointing out my oversight. Guitars are now confined to their corners, and I pulled some of the reverb off the high parts; I think you're right about that. New version's up at the same link.
I find the scroll wheel changes my settings by accident if I'm hovering over a dial. I always have to check the balance before I'm done.
I stole the ending from Mike Wilhelm who stole it from the Beatles. 'Course they stole it too, so it's all grist for the mill
I try to only directly steal stuff that's already stolen (or in post-modern artbabble, "appropriated")

Re: "No Good At Goodbyes"
That rocks, Kira. Hints of British Invasion in there.
Re: "No Good At Goodbyes"
Thanks, Kris! You mean the windmill chords?
I hope Jake is around, that's something for him

Re: "No Good At Goodbyes"
Tasty, tasty, tasty little rocker!
I love when you get to the slight change of "I'm real bad at goodbye", and also that "dern-di dern-di dern-di" bass part, LOL. How to describe such things?
Wish I could bring my whole family and a bunch of food and drink to your boat and just play music all day and night. Your set-up looks so great. Man, I miss that part of the world.
Is this the Keith Richards thing you were mentioning a while ago?
Great stuff, Kira, and just excellent production. Really pisses me off in a good way.

You'd be very welcome to do so. My studio is small but has what we need. And just like John Hall, we can look at the water all around. We got about 80 degrees today, still T-shirt weather around the bay.lyle_from_minneapolis wrote:Wish I could bring my whole family and a bunch of food and drink to your boat and just play music all day and night. Yeah, exactly. I thought he and Pete T would be good imaginary coaches for me on this one. The congas were for Keith. Imagine hearing this 50 times and then going over to your last collaborationlyle_from_minneapolis wrote:Is this the Keith Richards thing you were mentioning a while ago?

Kira,
I am a continual lurker, but also a consistant admirer of your creative target.
I just love this one. I am a fan of the two and one half minute rocker. Always sounds easier than it is.
Espescially to do well.
This one is a ROCKET!!!!
Love it...till the cows come home. Great! I also would love to hang in any studio with you, anytime.
But, that is, you would be the one with the talent.

Joe, that's the sweetest thing anyone's said to me all day
I'm glad my work pleases. And glad you've stepped out of the shadows. One with such obvious good taste and manners should step up to the plate more often
I hate to refer to my forum friends as my "fan base", but you all are actually filling the position very nicely. If this thing goes anywhere you all are going with me.

Re: "No Good At Goodbyes"
Well Joe does point out, correctly I think, that you do have a knack for the two-and-a-half minute rocker. And I wish I had that knack too, quite frankly.
