Low relief in neck & headstock cap- late model Ric 360-6

I like a flat neck (about .010 relief) but after adjusting the truss rods, they protrude so that the "Rickenbacker" logo cap on the headstock won't lie flat. Is this typical of Rics?

Also, I'd like to replace the strings with the same gauge as it came with, seems only RIC sells sets with those gauges, and they are pricey. Anyone else find sets in the same gauge (10 - 42 if memory serves)

You'd have to make up a set of ernie Ball singles or any other brand that a store uses/carries as their single strings.

The nameplate thing ...well ,that is not a normal thing .I have seen it before but it sounds like something has shifted .How old is the guitar ?

If it is pre 1985 then you have the old system and this is not that uncommon.

The new rods don't 'move' around and stay put.
Is there a lot of thread poking out from the rod nuts?
Are they curled up or down and is there an aluminum bar that bridges the 2 rods or are there steel washers and a bar?
Inquiring minds want to know !

I buy strings individually. AMS sells most brands individually, I think, so that you can precisely match what Ric puts on there. Your local music shop should sell them individually also. I don't know about your truss rod. That sounds scary. My neck is straight on my 360/12 and my truss rod doesn't do that.

The Ric was bought new last year. Yup, a lot of thread poking from the nuts. Looks like steel washers & a bar (from memory, I am 3000 miles away from my guitars at this time, a sad situation).

No 'curling' visible, the rods look straight.

Sometimes the rods anchor compresses and pulls the rods toward the headstock .This stops after it get adjusted (in the first 6 months) and then ,if the threads are bulging the nameplate,the excess thread can be cut off with a Dremel type tool.This is not for the meek or faint of heart.A PRO should do this.
