Rickenbacker Bass Bound Headstocks

Post by admin »

For the most part, I have not seen many bound Rickenbacker headstocks, be they bass or guitar.

I would be interested in seeing any photos of those basses that you may have with a bound headstock.

All 4002's had black bound headstocks:

Binding does look cool on the headstock.

I thought the 4002's had bound headstocks. And I know there were a couple of SWEET instruments Paul W. has worked on with bound headstocks, love that look!!
The Jazzbo shown at NAMM has it. I also have a picture of a 360 with it.

Yes, indeed the 4002's did have bound headstocks. The black binding is somewhat more subdued, however.

iiipopes' 4002 has cream-coloured binding on the headstock. I guess it's a "WalnutGlo".

That would most likely be white binding which has ambered.

Hmm, so far not too many pictures. I've been wanting to see examples of bound bass headstocks myself, I'm considering adding binding to one someday.

I assume the only factory bound basses were 4002's right? Were these just a solid color (black or white) or did they do checker too?

I have to say, one of the nicest headstock binding I've seen so far, even though it's not a bass is this one from the "Gone Green!" thread in Guitars. I'd like to see a checker with black outer binding.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

This one is a beauty and she is back on ebay. If I could only get into my youngest's college account without needing his mother's signature...
