Now the guy gets back to me and says he hasn't done anything with the preapprovals yet. What's to preapprove? My feedback is perfect. if he looks he can see I've bought and sold basses in the range he's looking for. I offered to pay by paypal immediately. what else can I do?
He knows he has a hot bass. I have a feeling he's going to shut everybody out and then relist it higher because he sees the demand.

Sorry to post so much, but I'm kinda excited. The guy called me after I paid because I expressed concern that the only problem would be if the truss rod was broken. He didn't even know what that was. I have my fingers crossed that it's OK.
The only problem that he mentioned was that the open A buzzes and he used to put a matchbook cover under the string in the nut to stop it.
In any event I should have it by the end of the week.

You can get a replacement nut from Rickenbacker ... I've done this to a couple of Rics ... it is easy ... or put a dab of superglue in the groove and that will raise the string ... or shim the nut with a thin piece of plastic ...
The good news is if an open string is buzzing then you don't have a bowed neck ...

Thanks guys!Best thing about this forum is when you buy a new axe how supportive the members here are.

These are more pictures of it. Notice the truss rod cover has the word "bulb" etched on.I always find it funny when people sell stuff they claim to know little about but price it right around the market. He must have shown it to someone with a shop or who knew.
He also said that he found the original receipt for it. he purchased it used at a place called Terminal Music on W48th st in NYC in 1974. He says he paid $445 for it. That was a rip. I paid $395 for mine new in 1979.
The other thing was he was looking for a forum like this to post the bass and sell it that way. He found something called "Vox talks" or "vox speaks" but not this site. Who's in charge of public relations here;-)?

Hey Marc- nice bass. I just bought the cousin of your bass last month (MD 13XX,burgandyglo) and its in about the same condition with a small amount of "gig mojo". Looks like the going rate for a 31 year old rick in good condition is going to be around $1800. When you factor in things like the bass being unmolested, the checkered binding and skunk stripe, you don't feel so bad about paying that kind of money. There are features on these old ricks that we are never going to see again. Another thing to consider- what are these rick's going to be worth 10 to 15 years from now? I think they could double, and that's a good investment.

Maybe they can meet up for a family reunion!
Anything that can be used and increase in value iss a win/win situation IMO. I agree also that there is definately a cut off in these features and it creates a line in the values of say 73 and after. I guess the previous line would be drawn when they stopped using the horseshoe. I don't know the year for that.
I am going to hunt down a real horseshoe and install it here.
