I love my Gretsches, and my Fenders as well. My Gretsch Silver Jet has been a faithful on stage companion for the past ten years, and before that My `65 Tennessean.

Sorry Mike no daisy guitars here anymore i sold that for Year subscription of M&Ms but ive got lots of big girls guitars! there all in line for firewood! I hate guitars!

I like Strats, Teles, the odd Gibbie and my Martin acoustic.

I also like triple cream blue Brie, potatoes, bacon and Nova Scotian beer.

I love Ricks, but I played Fenders almost exclusively for the longest time. Teles and Strats. Had a Les Paul as well for when I needed that sound. Then a while back I got turned on to Gretsches. A buddy of mine brought his Duo Jet over to my house I and was blown away by it. Had to have one. The next day I put my Les Paul up for sale and never looked back. Nowadays my playing time is pretty much evenly split between Ricks, Gretsches and Fenders. Don't own any Gibsons anymore.

Ricks are nice, but there are alot of great guitars/basses out there these days. I love them all. Its not like 30 years ago when Fender, Gibson and Rickenbacker were pretty much your choices.

I think that is the main reason you have your Fender, Gibson and Rickenbacker purist's these days, Alot of people bought them grew up with them, swear by them,and refuse to believe that something else could be as good or better for less money.

Life is to short. I like to experiment.

Just for the record, "Forum 51- The Quest for Tone" is one of my favorite forum topics. You do a great job Mike.

Like I've said before, I like Strats and Teles, as well as Les Pauls, SGs, Firebirds and the Gretsch 6120.

I'm open to playing anything in addition to Rics. Now a Ric being my main guitar is another story. It's good to be a Ric only player, I agree totally to you Ric only players, but it's always nice to change the sound from the jangly toasters (or hi-gains with compression) to the bluesy tone of humbuckers or the twangy sound of Fender single coils. It's like Pete Townshend said, "The music must change", and for me, it means tone. I've been on my Strat for my main 6-string guitar for nearly a year, and while it's a great guitar, I really want to change the tone from that twang with sustain for a more resonant tone with jangle (ya'll know where I'm going with this...)

What I mean to say is, it's always nice to have a little variety in what you play. Doesn't hurt, either (well, maybe a little bit, who knows?).

My Ricks don't jangle, they ROCK, (and in the neck position setting, Ricks can produce a wonderfully jazzy tone if one so desires) but I like to mix it up as well with my guitar selection Jake.

I went back and forth between playing my `57 USVRI Strat and my 381/6 yesterday, just appreciating the tonal differences with the amp at the same setting for both guitars, messing about with different pickup combinations, et cetera. I wasn't making any new discoveries tonally, but refreshing my memory as to the tonal differences with some direct comparison and contrast.
