The 650 Van Kampen mod?Mod vs Mod!

Post by octagon »

I had read about the Van Campen mod for 650's that Ed Wood offers for to remove the large heel from the neck of Rickenbacker 650s.Wasn't that heal a Rickenbacker mod to their original 650 design and wasn't it done to improve the stability of the neck because alot of wood is removed for the neck for the pickups?I thought I heard that once.

This is a 1991 650 has the original "small heal".

I find the heel on the 650 quite comfortablem and contoured nicely to fit the hand.

No problem at all playing a stock 650.

Why anyone would want to play with the overall shape and thus pollute the eventaul resale value is beyond me.
