Oh well this saga goes on. Over night, one of the nuts popped off the rod, the thread is worn off too much. So how much can I shorten the rod about 1/2"?

Dusan, you can cut off the threaded end and the re-tap the fresh with new threads for the nut to go on. I remember John Hall saying that the 4001 truss rods were longer than they actually had to be. So that is good in cases like this to have the extra length to use.

Thanks, that is good news. I think I will take about 1/2 off to get all the bad threads and bends out. Oh, this one cured me out of buying "projects" for a while I guess. :?

Anybody know someone in Southern California that can replace truss rods without ruining the neck?
