Recent crop of 1997's on eBay...

Post by AQuickOne »

It seems that the 1997's are coming out of the closet and being put on ebay lately. One just sold for $3000 last week, another posted immediately after that is currently at $2912 and will sell tomorrow. First, did any fellow forumite buy the first one? Anybody here the current bidder on the latest one? We should add the serials to the database.

I maintain that, if they keep coming out of the woodwork, especially if the market keeps declining, prices will drop again. $3K for these is ridiculous! That means they've over doubled in the past year and a half...?

I agree, $3000 is off the hook for these. I also agree that the prices are due to recent scarcity in the market. I predict the next one that gets listed wont fetch $3k.

There are a lot of overseas buyers who would gladly pay that for an instrument, that if they could find, would cost them signifigantly more. Also, someone wanting one badly enough, if they have the money, really wouldn't have a problem shelling out big money for the guitar of their dreams.

I feel like such a schmuck. I bought one earlier this year, decided I didn't want it, and sold it for a loss shortly thereafter. Certainly not the first financial misstep of my adult life, and, unfortunately, far from the worst.

Well there is another one right now on ebay, MG for $2700 BIN! It seems everyone is watching the market and salivating over the potential for a fistful of cash.

That one on Ebay will go for less because it's MG, I guarantee it. Even though it's rarer- people want the original Rose Morris style Fireglo.

Also, the F-hole seems WAY off crooked (or is it just me)? Looks like somebody missed the jig that day..

PS...my '87 1997SPC FG VB is for sale as well, anybody can PM me for info, it will be on Ebay in the next few days (cheaper than the average going rate lately too..)

I like both soundhole positions...variation only makes it more 'vintage-accurate!'

I would agree with that, they had been steady at $2k since mid-2006 or maybe a bit earlier. I remember them going for much less circa-'05, and there were many more steals popping up then.

I disagree- Within the last 12 months (IIRC), a FG 1997 sold on ebay for $1500 BIN, and another one sold on Pick of the Ricks for $1700. This would be late '07, early '08.
