Straplocks

Post by atomic_punk »

Just got my '76 4001 AG, and its sweet! (Pictures forthcoming!) but it needs Straplocks in the worst way. I won't EVER take a bass on stage without em. Wondering, since I was hoping to play it this weekend, if anyone sells a Straplock set for this bass or am I going to have to order one from Mike Parks? If so, then I have to wait a week to show it off!!
Any advice? Thanks!

In a pinch you can take the buttons out and put your strap on with a washer on the outside of the strap, it will never let go.

"In a pinch." Good one Bob. I don't know why but I found this comment to be particularly funny. It would have been even funnier had you said that this will probably "tide" you over.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

The washer "pinches" the strap to the body so it can't come off.

Steve I use Dunlops on all my basses and guitars. I had to go to HomeDepot and get stainless trim star drive screws 8 x 1-5/8, the straplock post mounted securely..

My main man Jeff Rath gave me the hookup by taking the ones off of his '68 and giving them to me. So big props to Jeff for helping out in a "pinch".

I have developed a work-around for the factory straplocks by modifying a set of standard straplocks (the kind that take wood screws, available at Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc.) and two machine screws (available at Ace Hardware). If/when I get the time, I'll take some pictures and provide the details. The only tools needed are a file, a drill, and a drill bit. No modification of the guitar is required!
