Rics and Macintosh

Post by carr »

Idle curiosity.

How many Ric owners also own a Mac?

I have 3 Rics and 3 Macs.

I've got a long-obsolete (but still running well) G4 iBook. Looking to upgrade in January/February.

I also have an iPhone and don't know how I ever got by without one!

MacBook Pro laptop + my trusty PowerBook G4 Titanium laptop --- Mac is the choice of educators and students, IMHO. My school district is wired with Macs to T1 lines --- cool shhtufff, man. Late.......Goofyfoot.

Four Rics and one in restoration but no Macs in this household. My studio-owning friend says Macs are indespensible for his business (complete with 30 inch HD screen for video production editing), but (and this may just be an Aussie thing) they are extremely expensive. As a result they just don't meet my specific needs in a cost-effective manner.

Apple's business model is brilliant - they ride the front edge of the technology and design wave, differentiate themselves strongly from the rest of the herd via astute marketing, and then charge a decent premium for product for which there is little perceived competition....and people love them for it. You've got to admire that, even if you don't use their products.

Not that I'm a Ric owner yet, but I have a Ric on order at least, so I guess that counts.

I am proud to say that I have never owned a PC. I have owned a variety of Macs since the early 90s including an LC, SE, second gen iMac (Ruby Red), one old laptop and currently a 1 1/2 year old iMac. We even still have one of the original ones (don't know the model) that most folks make fish bowls out of. In addition, there are four iPods in this house but no iPhones yet :(

2 Ricks + one on order
1 Mac Pro
1 PC running Linux
and I'm sorry to admit, 5 PCs running XP

Unfortunately, the computers get a lot more use that the Ricks. Between my wife's web design business and my "day job" designing ICs, they're pretty much all running all the time...

There must be something wrong with my ratio: 15 Ricks, and two Macs: G5 desktop and MacBook laptop for the road. For pix of the Ricks :D see "Fall colors" in the bass section.

5 Ricks and 2 Macs here.

I want some Mc gear but the prices are out of hand these days. I do have the McIntosh book by Ken Kessler, does that count on the Mc end?
