SHIPPING TO AUSTRALIA

Post by carr »

Ive just looked at a couple of Rics from USA and both quote shipping as $USD 350 plus.. This is horse POO.
Ive just had a 620 and a 4003 shipped (separately) , insured for under $USD $150.
Beware AUSSIEs.

I shipped a 370 to Australia a few months ago and it was close to $400, so your quotes are what I would expect.

C'mon, John...... do us Aussies a favour and give us the details. We've been paying $300 to $400 USD for Fedex or UPS for years and a viable alternative is desperately needed. :(

And if that figure of $150 is for USPS tell us how the heck you got them past the Australian size restrictions!!

$150 seems awfully cheap from the U.S. to Australia.

It was little less than $150 for the 4003 . No problem with the size.. maybe it was via a Hicksville post office. Dunno . I emailed one seller about his $350 USD postage charge and gently pointed out that I though his shipping was flocking excessive and he suggested that the only way to ship a 4003 this way was to break the head off.
Both Guitars were sent USPS insured. Allegedly for the value of the guitar plus the shipping

and the 620
quote from the buyer

"hi john
sorry but the figures for payment made and cost of shipping and bal that i emialed you about dont add up

you sent me an overage of cost of guitar of 50.00 to go toward shipping.
the shipping was 119.90"

Check item description and payment instructions or contact seller for details

I was going to scan the shipping docs but on reflection I dont want to blow a good thing ..
The 620 came straight thru no mucking around with import docs. The 620 Took 5 from USA ,the 4003 took 10 days but went thru customs .

Well, you're a lucky chap, John. Every time somebody from the US has tried to ship a guitar to me via USPS it's been an absolute no-no, so horse POO it ain't!! Luck of the draw and some sleepy USPS clerks, more like it! :x

The bass came via customs and was delivered to my office .There was an add on charge of$ 49 AUSD ( USA maybe $30) for documentation and presumably courier from Tullamarine to Glen Waverley So all up less than $180 USD Door to door.

The 620 came direct to the office no forms to be completed for USD$119 . GO figger..

JUst a thought. the outer boxes were NOT ric boxes they were fender. Maybe fenders sneak in under the USPS limits and they saw fender onthe box and thought " hey Thats Ok !"?

I have found that even with my company discount ( which is pretty good ) it runs anywhere from $225-$275
to ship a Ric to Australia. Just my personal feelings but I would never ship via the USPS.....especially overseas.

Hm all this has made me gunshy about buying another Ric from USA.

If $350 is the *right price * add another 5% for duty to the cost of the ric and then 10% to the total for GST and that makes importing rics an expensive exercise .
eg:$1000USD
+ 350
+5% on the $1000=50
thats $1400

+10% on the overall
$1400 + 140
$1540 x.68 = OUCH
