He's Got No Love

Post by mdenger »

Hi All, took some time but now it's finished. My new page about the Searchers' single: He's Got No Love

As usual: Picture Covers, charts, material from the music press, links and so on.

So take a look at:

I don't know why this song did not do better in the US.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Aside from the guitar run, which sounds like (and was lifted from, according to Chris) the Stones' "last Time", the vocal sounds tired, and lacks any emotion (compare w/ "Goodbye, My Love"). Probably my least favorite Searchers single. It sounded derivative and flat.

John: It would seem from the chart data that much of the rest of the world agreed with you on this one. Of interest to me, however, is that we see the bold attempt to release Searchers' compositions on both A and B sides. I have always felt that they would have charted better had they released all original material at the time. This outcome would argue against this theory. Perhaps the more subdued performance was a reflection of personality issues of the group.

At least The Searchers wrote "He's Got No Love". The follow-up, "When I Get Home", sounds a lot more 'tired' and is my least favourite Searchers' track.

Tim,

I agree that "When I Get Home " also sounds very tired. Since the two songs were back to back, perhaps as Pete suggests, the split in the band was developing. I've heard, or read that Chris had to sell "When I get Home" pretty hard, and that the other guys didn't really want to do it.
