a good dilemna...sort of
Rickenlust recently led me to purchase a '93 v63, which gives me a total of 3 rick basses at the moment. I love it, as I do my 74 4000 and my 04 cii. They are all quite different sounding (and playing). I convinced myself, if I buy the v63, one of the others would have to go-well guess what. I spent about 3 hours playing them all yesterday, and I can't make a decision. I mean the 4000 could be seen as having the least versatility, but it also happens to have the best playability and an edge to the sound that neither of the other ones has. The v63 is surprisingly to me the least like any Rickenbacker bass I have ever picked up-but i love the feel, pickup sound and it is the thumpinest rick bass I have ever played. Lastly the Cii is to me both a lutheryan (word!) work of art,and a great sounding/playing bass/love the sound of the hb1's. I kind of spent money for the new bass that was earmarked for home renovation (whoops) even if I sell one of my basses, I spent more for the v than I would get for either of mine, so it's not life or death, but sooner or later, I need to make some sort of decision. I would be more than happy to hear from ya'll good folks about what ya think! Personally if money was not a factor,I would see this a the beginning to a nice collection.....

Woody, I would have a hard time picking which one of those basses I'd have to sell. Hopefully it is the start of a nice collection for you!
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

Or, you could sell me the cii !!ben_brown wrote:Sell me the 4000...

If you had to sell one, I agree with Steve. Tammy is in dire need of a bass.

Re: a good dilemna...sort of
I'd sell the 4004, as the other two are out of production now.
Re: a good dilemna...sort of
No selling !! I miss my sold RICs
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !
Re: a good dilemna...sort of
4004. Or feasibly V63. Keep the 4000!
Re: a good dilemna...sort of
Keep 'em all and ask for forgiveness.

Well I have wanted to get a CS model for a long time. I see the v63 as essentially the same bass in a different color and it is the one I will definitely keep. As far as asking for forgiveness, I don't think my visa card will see it that way! (And I just dropped $4200 for new flooring...)
So it really comes down to the Cii or the 4000-either way, ouch! Steve and/or Sam, I may be in touch!

These basses are so complementary that it is imposible to sell one.

I have a rule that I (somewhat) follow that follows the logic, "It's okay to have one of everything, two sometimes, more is generally excess." So right now I own a 4003FL, a 4003, and a Fender MIA Jazz. IMO, none of them overlaps much with the other, although there is some slight overlap between the J and the fretted 4003.
In your case, you own 1 orange, 1 apple, and 1 pear. I don't see why you should have to sell one--we all like a variety of foods in our diet don't we?
