Changing knobs on 335?

Post by kieran campbell »

Hey all,
I have a 335 with newer knobs (I don't know what they are called but the top is silver and says bass volume ect.) and I was wondering how to change them to Delux vintage ones. How do I go about doing this? do I just pull them of like a fender tele or is it somthing other?

(I know its a pretty nooby question) Thanks! :D

Look at the side of the knobs - there's a small screw holding the knob tight to the post. Get a small flathead screwdriver, loosen the screw and the knobs should come right off.

Telecaster knobs have this same screw...hope you haven't been pulling those off...

Occasionally, the set screw creates a ridge on the pot shaft, and the knob appears to be stuck on there. If that happens, once the set screw is loose. turn the knob and pull.

If we are talking about a gibson, there's no set screw, just pull them off. Watch out for the pointy little position marker, they bite! :)

With Gibsons, I like to wrap a shirt or other piece of cloth under the knob and pull straight upwards - they come off nice and clean, and without pricked fingers!

Hmm, looked OK just after I posted it, but that's the general idea.
