MACCA'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY...

Post by jingle_jangle »

...Which I just finished reading, has realigned my thinking and tempered my opinion of him a good deal. Nothing like some real facts to fill in the suppositions that we wise acres seem to make, and make so sweepingly...

It makes PM seem a good deal more human, posits really good reasons why a lot of the stuff that I took issue with, went down like it did, and above all, was one of the better general Beatles bios I've read--ever.

It was good fun and enlightening to cross-ref the incidents in Macca's book with those in Davies' and Peter Brown's books, among others.

I still think a lot of his music is a bit vapid, but I respect the man a good deal more now. A good read, if anybody there hasn't tried it yet.

I misspoke. It is a biography, not an autobiography, although the writer, Barry Miles, had Sir Paul's ear for many hours. It's called "Many Years From Now", and I'm sure it's old news to most Forumites.

I discovered it in a used bookstore a couple years ago. It's long, but I didn't have a problem getting through it. Definitely a good read for more in-depth Paul fans.

I thought it was a good read... I do find it interesting that Macca seems to consider the Beatles era his public life, judging by how the book ends pretty much where the beatles break up, and how the solo/wings stuff is his more personal life. Although this does explain how solo and wings stuff gets put together on Wingspan and other compilations. I think, or something like that!

Read it when it came out. I still feel Macca doesn't want to give himself full credit re his contributions to Lennon's songs (Lennon is quoted as saying Paul sabotaged SFF. Sabotage? That's one of their best!).

Perhaps he doesn't want to shake up the St. John crowd.

Paul: Thanks for your reflections on Paul McCartney. His life has certainly been a long and winding road.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
