8-string
Hi Everyone,
I'm curious about how hard it is to find an 8 string Rick. I recall they made them up until around 1990 if I'm not mistaken. Are these around, or are they as rare as the 4080s these days? What would they go for $. Thanks

Re: 8-string
Almost as rare as thr 4080 but not as expensive.
Expect to pay about the same as a pristine 4001v63
And welcome Alberto!

Welcome Alberto. Glad to have you aboard!
I agree with Eden (who makes a habit of being right), but would add that you're far less likely to see a 4003S/8 than a pristine V63. They were made in much smaller numbers. A really special example (custom colour, special features) may get a bit of a premium.
John Hall had been rumbling about new models coming to fruition once the backlog has been tamed. I'm hoping that 5-string and 8 (or even 10) string basses wil be part of the "new wave". I'm also hoping the backlog will be tamed. I'm also hoping that the Australian Dollar will go back up above 90 US Cents....

Re: 8-string
I think they were discontinued early this decade. They would probably go for about $2K-3K.

Re: 8-string
Jason is right - I saw one in Japan sometime around 2003, a year after they had been discontinued in the States.
And don't forget the 4008, I think those were discontinued in the '80s, unbound body and fingerboard dots like a 4003S but with bound fingerboard and Rick-O-Sound...
