My Before and After...

Post by godber »

My little 425V63 came to me with a disappointing amount of plectrum scratching on the top of the body, some of it pretty deep. I nervously stripped it down and used T-Cut Original, followed by Scratch-X, followed by Zymöl and here are the results. I used Zymöl on everything in the end!

It still has a few minor dents and imperfections, but I very happy with!

My very grateful thanks to Paul Wilczynski for his time and expert advice. Whilst it was hard work on the fingers, it's a very peaceful and relaxing thing to do - I thoroughly recommend it!

What is the small, square route behind the neck used for :?: Truss rod adjustment or something...?

Not adjustment, but in case they need to be pulled for whatever reason.

Great job, Mark!

Superb work Mark!

Did you use zymol on the fret board too?

Really it just goes to show how lazy most guitar shops are, that is now in the condition you would have expected the guitar to be in the first place. Though you've probably just added a few hundred quid to the value of it. :D

Is the set up still OK after stripping it down?

What did you use to clean up the chrome parts?

I would now be tempted to do something quite spectacular with that huge pickguard.......... :D

Brilliant stuff.

Cheers Rob!

Yes, but Scratch-X first and then the Zymöl. I didn't need to work it as hard as the body scratches. Now it shows off the nicely figured rosewood.

I very was worried about that - but it went back together easily and sounded even better with the new RIC strings!

Just the Zymöl, and it really shines.

What you don't get so much from the photo's is how much clearer and brighter the colour is and how much more grain you can see shimmering underneath the colour. Really like BG.

Now you should replace those bridge adjustment setscrews with some that are 5/16" or 3/8" long...those will eventually punish your hands.

Godber.....What an effort! What a result! Props to you, man, for staying with it. Question: What did you use to strip it down before you applied the T-Cut Original, Scratch-X, and Zymöl? Keep on keepin' on, brah.....Goofyfoot.
Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

Mark: In a word, outstanding.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
