Is there a full moon or something?

UK ebay seems to be full of this stuff at the moment...........

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Jay-Turser-Ricken ... 240%3A1318

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rickenbacker-Jay- ... 240%3A1318

And my old favourite (NOT!)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Italia-Rimini-ret ... 240%3A1318

And lastly, not a fake, but judging by the gouges under the R tailpiece, and the way it's stuck in a corner of the room at the end of the couch, I suspect this poor old ric hasn't had as much love as the owner says it has.

Rob,

It's all the mug punters having to liquidate assets after backing England against the Wallabies...

Dodgy punters selling dodgy guitars.....

Love that custom form fitted case on that first one, perfect for protecting a copy that is better than the original. Too bad RIC didn't get the memo that they lost the copyright lawsuit, as it would have saved them a ton of money in their legal department.

In all seriousness, I hope this knucklehead gets what he deserves.

Love that Rimini, it just looks so confused in its construction, and then that lovely "bug in plastic" finish. Look out Rickenbacker-as the add says-I think I need an antacid now.

My first ever guitar was a Shaftsbury Thinline Telecaster. If it's anything to go by, this Rickenbacker copy will certainly not be anything near the build quality of the real thing.

Ye getz what yez pays fer.

By the time I happened onto this thread, the faker was expunged.

I hope this doesn't start a transatlantic feud, but can anyone tell me why the UK has so many people with attitudes selling Rickenfakers?

Perhaps a little translation will assist, Brian.

"Mug punter": gambler who bets stupidly

"Backing England to beat the Wallabies": betting on the English Rugby Union team to beat the Australian one

"Dodgy": suspect, sus, shonky, flaky

Anything else I can help you with?

Aitch, I'm so glad you speak fluent American....

And a bit of background - last Saturday, after having been thoroughly trashed by the UK press as being a substandard team that couldn't beat a bunch of blind octagenarians, the Australian Rugby Team defeated England 28-14. The bookies had a field day....

I think a lot of the blame has to go to some of the guitar shops in the UK.
Outside of the main cities it's really hard to find a guitar shop that isn't full of cheap and mostly ****** guitars.
I understand that some of it is probably a demand/supply/economics issue for the shop, but I've noticed that a lot these types of shop that don't sell any major brand guitars, tend to hold a lot of really awful copies of the old classics, Strats, Teles, SG's, LP's and sometimes, Rics.
So the unwary punter walks in to the shop, looks at a gleaming guitar on the wall that looks like their dream Ric, but this one is "only a couple of hundred quid, and anyway, you have to wait ten years to get a real Ric, and anyway, they're rubbish now because they're made in Bulgaria" (the usual bulls**t from the sales assistant) and a sale is made.
Said punter gets the guitar home, plugs it in and realises they've bought a pile of ****.
Next stop Ebay and a strong sales pitch to try to recoup some of the cash they've wasted.

I know some shops are turning away from some of the major brand guitars because of 'unreasonable' demands from the majors, but thats no excuse for telling lies to sell **** guitars. I've actually heard some corking tales from shop assistants in my time, so I know first hand that this goes on.

I have got into many a constructive discussion (read that as 'argument') with numpty guitar shop staff (and managers) who think that I don't know a flatfish's ***** about guitars. If I am going to buy anything of high value I always do my homework first and ask a couple of clueless questions first and see what answers I get, if I get ******** I either shoot them down or walk out depending on what mood I am in.

Classics are...

'Gibson never made and left handed guitars'

'Just turn it upside down, there isn't any difference'

'Rickenbackers are an old German make, they aren't made anymore'

'Yes we do sell high end left handed guitars, we have this (insert Encore Strat or similar here)'

and the old favourite...

'We don't sell left handed guitars because there is no call for them. You are the third person today to ask'.

Peter, you've got a way with words. I am going to borrow the "flatfish's *****" phrase and use it wherever appropriate or inappropriate, or...
