Thanksgiving...what are your plans?
Thanksgiving...what are your plans?
Thanksgiving is coming up, and we should all have some form of plans...
Me, I'm going to relax this week since I have off of school, but I have two weeks left to prove myself in school, so I can be exempt from my exams, and get some special stuff this Christmas.
Tonight, three members of my band (my lead guitarist DJ, my singer Jacob and my bassist Dylan) are performing an acoustic set at the local coffeshop, and I promised them I'd come out and see them.
Sunday, relaxing
Monday, I'm spending the day at home, doing chores, surfing the web, all that good stuff.
Tuesday, I think my dad is going to treat me to a fun day, and we're going down to International Vintage Guitars in New Orleans so I can try out a Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins '59 RI with various amps (including a Deluxe Reverb, Custom Vibrolux 2X10, Custom Vibro-King 3X10, Blues Deville and a 70's Sunn amp).
Wednesday, I think I'll go over to my Grandma's and do some yardwork for her to prepare for...
Thursday, I'm going up to my Grandma's house with my parents. My dad's brother and his family (three boys (the younger two who I am NOT fond of) and his scary wife (who if you make mad, can do a very good impression of John Entwistle's bass growl)) are coming along. I'm particuarly looking forward to the meal, as I get my own pot of soy cream spinach as well as my own soy cheesecake. Essentially, anything my Grandma plans to make with dairy, she'll make me my own version with soy substitutes in it.
On Black Friday, I'm going to stay home, and try and get out as little as possible.
Saturday, I'm getting Christmas gifts
Sunday, relaxing before working for two more weeks.

Re: Thanksgiving...what are your plans?
This year I'm staying at home and cooking up a feast.Roast toikey,giblet gravy,smashed spuds,brussell sprouts.Apple pie.
The cat will go nuts smelling the bird cooking.Gf won't have to do a thing until it's dishes time. Then nancy neatfreak will tear into them;won't let me stuff the dishwasher and wait on it.So all is cleaned up before she goes home.
Cat will have had his share and still want more.
Then along about Sunday, I'll makee soup from the carcass.
So, all in all, the holiday dinner will keep me fed for about a week.

Re: Thanksgiving...what are your plans?
I've cooked the dinner since 1970, except for the one year in Brasil where the turkeys came in cans like ham...
This year it'll be turkey, three kinds of obsessive-compulsive dressing, creamed spinach, roast chestnut and crab soup, sweet and mashed white potatoes, pumpkin pie (Safeway), and all sorts of bevs.
A plus this year is my brother joining us. He recently moved from Colorado back to CA, for his new job in my wife's company. (It helps that she's the HR person!) So, laughs and reminiscences galore. OFAP.

I'm going to learn how to cook a turkey by next Thursday, then cook a turkey. Can't be too hard for a guy who's never cooked a thing in his life, right?

Just pop that thang in the oven, feathers and all, and crank that sucker up to about 11.

Re: Thanksgiving...what are your plans?
Tuesday most of my students have cancelled their lessons. I only have one to teach in the evening. Wednesday I'll be doing some baking for the family, and teaching a student in the afternoon whose lesson is normally on Thursday.
Thursday the wife & I are driving out of town to have Thanksgiving dinner with her brother, sister-in-law, and my wife's parents. We'll have a turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, home made dinner rolls (called tweeback courtesy of me, a tradition from my family ) and all sorts of salads, steamed vegetables, a casserole or two, corn, and at least two kinds of pie; pumpkin and apple.
Friday we'll spend the day with my wife's folks, and Saturday morning drive home.

Pointing my compass towards one of the downtown missions to help wash pots, pans, and utensils and serve meals to the down 'n out. Been doin' it for several years. Time was single men and an occasional single woman were queueing up. Breaks my heart to see mothers with young ones in tow lining up now. I find it tough to swallow that those in power allow this to continue to happen in America, the richest nation in the history of.....well, you catch my drift. Keep on keepin' on. Peace, out.....Goofyfoot.
Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing -- imagine that. When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.
> 8 - 15 lb. turkey
> 1 cup melted butter
> 1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good)
> 1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S LOW FAT)
> Salt/pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Brush turkey well with melted butter, salt and pepper.
Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn.
Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.
Listen for the popping sounds.
When the turkey's rear blows the oven door open and the bird flies across the room, it's done.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
p.s. don't really try this!!

Re: Thanksgiving...what are your plans?
We're headed to my brother's house in Tennessee for Thanksgiving this year.
Re: Thanksgiving...what are your plans?
We'll probably do the usual. A few of the powerboaters and houseboat ladies open their doors to the boater gents who are perched a little precariously on the social ladder. I can't cook this year so we'll make the rounds, bring something to share, shake a lot of hands, and I'll play some music with my Rickenbackers
.

Re: Thanksgiving...what are your plans?
I'm taking the week off. Went to a college football game yesterday; a 5 hour tailgate party, followed by the game. Today, I'm kicking back and relaxing. Tomorrow, I'm planning on during some Christmas shopping along with visiting a couple of guitar stores. Tuesday & Wednesday, get the yard & the outside of the house decorated and try to get in a round or two of golf. Thursday, I'll take my Mom out to eat since neither of us has the inclinational to cook. On Friday & Saturday, we will be making day trips of a couple of historical state parks.
