Custom Shop Jazz Bass For Sale

Post by rickaddict »

Hello People!

I have a '64 Fender Jazz Bass NOS in the 3-tone sunburst for sale. It'll hit eBay pretty soon, but I thought I'd offer it up here first. It was made in 2003 in the Fender Custom Shop in Corona, California and is a really sweet example. I bought it from its original owner who owned a studio and thought it would be a good idea to have in case anyone wanted to use it to record. Evidently very few of his customers were interested, because it is near mint. Apart from some very minor pick marks on the pick guard, it's like new. NO fret wear, straight neck, beautiful set up. I've heard people complain about Fender quality control on this forum...This one must be an exception, 'cuz its frikken fabulous! I brought this bass to RIO a few months ago, so some of you may have seen it before. It comes with its COA and cool original tweed hard case (that still has the protective plastic on the latches).

Reason for selling: I'm just a Rick guy. I thought it would be cool to diversify the stable, but I've since come to realize that I am simply not gonna change. Its a great bass with great tone, but I still prefer my Ricks.

I'm asking $1700 shipped anywhere in the Continental US.

Photos available upon request (I'm at work and they're on my home computer).

This is not mine, but it is what mine looks like:

Sounds real nice Jeff. I love my original 64, and they are so easy to play.

Good luck with the sale!

Thanks, Jake and Andy!

Well, its on eBay now:

Somehow my photos are about 1/5 the size and quality that they originally were. I'll get the hang of all this technology stuff someday. Maybe when I'm retired and have all the time in the world to figure it out!

Any who...the good news (for me) is that somebody placed a $1500.00 (or more, but less than my $1700.00 reserve) within an hour of the auction hitting eBay.

Stay tuned!

Yeah, eBay resizes your uploaded pictures -- you can pay more to have them "supersized" (i.e., resized to larger than what you ended up with, but probably still smaller than your originals). I like to host my pictures at photobucket and link to them in the auction text. Bigger photos, and it's free.

Good luck with the sale, it sounds like a good price. I've been playing my own '64 jazz a lot lately. I'm having a hard time deciding between that jazz, my '08 P, and my Shadow for my upcoming gig (when you only gig every couple months it seems like a much more important decision!). Oh, and my dark star Fenderbird project is going to be done next week too. Oy.

Thanks, Jake! I vote Shadow for your upcoming gig! Is your '64 Jazz a real one or a Custom Shop RI like mine?

Mine met the reserve today...Yay!

May it go to a good home!

It's a real one ... refinished, relic-ed, refretted, and with a replacement PG and pots/wiring, but otherwise all there. I don't even mind the relic work as it is well enough done and looks age-appropriate. It sounds like an absolute beast (if you can get past my playing).

Congrats on hitting the reserve!

Congrats, Jeff!

Just didn't do it for you, huh?

Oh well, you can borrow mine if you get the urge.
