The Who -- Don't Let Go the Coat

Post by JakeK »

The closeups of the 1993/12 are just outstanding...makes me want to steal...I mean play one of Graham's!

I must say though, as a Who song, I found it quite un-spectacular.

Actually, this is one of my favorite Who songs. Sure, it comes out of that period when Townsend was coping with middle age--but I happen to like that period, and not just because I'm now coping with middle age! :) Face Dances was the first who record I ever owned--I found the LP in a "cut out" bin at some department store back in the early 80s, when I was in middle school. Many, many years later I discovered that one of the things that drew me it was the sound of that Rick 12 (I had gone on to my more powerful influences, bands like REM and the Church).

Good times . . .

Cool 12-string solo on this one! I'm a fan of the 'Face Dances' era, too. Thanks, Jake.

Sorry, not my cup of tea.

To me, that's not really The Who.

Eh, no, thanks.

My feeling when this came out: Who are these guys and what have they done with The Who?

It is a good tune and the 12 sounds fantastic.

I just always expected something more fiery from them. They sound complacent and comfortable here. Where's the angst?

My very humble op. :)

Well, I know what you mean, it can't be all rage all the time--especially once you hit middle age. Pete's always been pretty cerebral and inward in his way, and this song captures that. But whatever . . . at least we can agree on those gorgeous Rick tones!

By the way, "Another Tricky Day" from the same album comes a LITTLE closer to the angst of which you speak.

That first sentence should read, "Well, I know what you mean, BUT it can't be all rage all the time . . ." I hate it when my brain and my fingers don't play nice together.
