Re: Groovy Beatles pictures
...and the Duo Jet many years later...

Re: Groovy Beatles pictures

Hope it's OK. I know this is not technically a Beatles picture but it sure is one of my very favorite ever of Paul. I love this picture
All I wanna do is rock!

I don't know much about Gretsch guitars, having only played 2 of them in my life. But I would hazard a guess that this change was but one more step in George's search for The Ultimate Rock'n'roll Guitar.brammy wrote: George is playing his red Duo Jet in this picture (above). Personally I liked the look of the black one better....... but does anyone know why he abandoned this Gretsch model? The Gent was nice but I always felt that it was slightly too BIG of a guitar for George. The Duo Jet seemed just right.

This image of McCartney playing the 4001S is also in the "Rare Photo-McCartney Plays 4001S" thread that I started, but I thought it would be good to post it here. I've only seen it in that old Beatles magazine that I used to have. At least I tore out this full page image:

Kira... thats a classic Pauly pic. Thanx.
Re: Groovy Beatles pictures
I think it's very cool that George thought to display the old Duo Jet. Thanks, George.
but why the strap over the right shoulder?

The actual Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band bass drum skin, hand-painted by Joe Ephgrave, will be auctioned at Christie's in London. It's expected to fetch $300,000 or more. The seller is remaining anonymous.
Summer 2008: The drum head which appeared on the cover of The Beatles' album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band has sold for £541,250 ($1.07m), nearly four times the estimated price, at an auction in London.
Re: Groovy Beatles pictures
I seem to recall Paul McCartney had the Sgt Pepper drumhead on his mantlepiece. I'm sure i read that in a bio somewhere. He must have handed it on at some stage.
Re: Groovy Beatles pictures
I wonder if the alternate head is on the back.
Re: Groovy Beatles pictures
We were in London a year and a half ago and walked past the current Apple Corps office (on Ovington Square near Harrods). There
was a Sgt Peppers drumhead on the wall in a room on the lower level. I wondered (but doubted) if it were THE drum head.
