Jimmy Nail

Post by winston »

I sometimes arrive late for a party but you know I missed the boat on this guy. I watched a film last night called Still Crazy. It was a very good film and one of the members of the ficticious 70's band "Strange Fruit" was a fellow who in real life named Jimmy Nail. His voice really impressed me...........and this is what I discovered after a short search. Obviously Jimmy is held in high regard in the UK.

Wow, fantastic!

How have I also not heard him yet? Thanks, Brian.

Big River is a massive song complete with shivers and goose bumps. His voice is like gold. And Knopfler? Is that Knopfler? It reminds me of Bruce Hornsby at his best, in the new, expanded, sound of Pop that emerged in the late eighties. But Jimmy Nail is a one-of-a-kind indeed. Just wonderful, just the way I love to hear Pop.

It would appear so Peter. I suspect from the tone of your response that you are not a fan of his? However, one of the best guitar players in the world (Mark Knopfler) obviously figured he was good enough to do a recording with, as the first embedded video demonstrates. Yes Kira that is indeed Mark.

I highly recommend the film "Still Crazy"........Billy Connolly is in it. It is hysterical at times and some of the music is really well done.

He appeared in a TV series called Spender, if my memory is correct.

Crocodile Shoes was a reasonably well received show down here.
Very impressive! No doubt due to the vocal talent of Mr Nail.

You obviously have your opinion Steve and I have mine which I am happy to share with millions of guitar players and fans alike. I am happy to see that yours makes you giggle.

Kira there are two things anyone with an ear for music cannot dispute. Jimmy Nail can sing and Mark Knopfler can play guitar.

They may not be to everyone's personal taste but the facts remain as stated. The question is do they deserve to be mocked? I think not, especially in Marks case, he has achieved his goals and he has become a well respected musician in the process.
