Ron, I really don't think Kenny is authorized to trade anything hanging in the RIC museum.libratune wrote:kennyhowes wrote:...bump?

I can't believe I never saw this. Good luck, Kenny.
Gretsches are amazing guitars. My favorite models are the Tennesean and the 6120. Gretsches have hot pickups, and the Filt'rons really drive an amp well. They have natural distortion that gets you good tones. Plugged into a reissue Fender Tweed amp, the sound is to DIE for.
Pete Townshend got the "Who's Next" and "Quadrophenia" tones with a '59 6120 through a Tweed Bassman...no pedals (aside from a volume pedal, used occasionally).
Mike Campbell usually uses a White Falcon in open "G" tuning for "I Won't Back Down" with (maybe?) a little fuzz or compression. He usually uses Gretsches for slide or to get darker tones, if Tom's guitar is bright (Fender or Rickenbacker). One of Mike's favorite guitars at home is a '63 Tennesean.

I'm jonesing hard for an orange double cutaway 6120 Nashville (vintage...). Just taking a guess, but it will likely be my next vintage purchase if I can find a good one.
Re: Gretsch Monkees Rock N' Roll Model
Gretsches ARE great guitars but unfortunately the Monkees model is not one of their finest. Unless you're into it for the high kitsch factor (which Is totally cool, believe me!), there are/were much better Gretsch guitars.
Like Jake and others noted, 6120's, Tenneseans, White Falcons, Jets.........................rock on!
I'm not even sure the Monkees played the Monkees Model!
I do admit however, that they are rare and nostalgic and it would be super cool to pull one out at a gig for fun.

Consider them added!
Re: Gretsch Monkees Rock N' Roll Model
Mike did play "The Monkee's" Gretsch on 2 videos "Door Into Summer" and "She Hangs Out". I posted those videos here a couple of years ago but those versions of the songs aren't on youtube anymore.Danotron wrote:Gretsches ARE great guitars but unfortunately the Monkees model is not one of their finest. So, Pete sold this, too? Dang, all he has at this point are the modded Clapton Strats.collin wrote:...now owned by Johnny Marr :
