360/12CW Truss Rod issue

Post by kranz »

I've a 360/12CW that I bought used. It appears to have some sort of truss rod issue. I can adjust the dual truss rods to give me the desired flatness of the neck. It will be fine for quite some time. But I don't play this guitar much and it stays in its case. After a period of months, I find that the neck has returned to a curvature as if little tension is on the neck. I've been through a couple of iterations of this now. Clearly something is wrong and I'm quite distressed, as it is otherwise a really nice guitar.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks, Ken. That sounds like what I might be dealing with. Yikes! I've worked with thin CA glue on my son's RC airplanes. It is notoriously hard to control once out of the bottle. The thought of turning it loose on a finely finished RIC is a bit daunting.

Try Super Glue Whip Tips. Also available at the same hobby store where you buy the R/C supplies.

Hi Guys-

I've removed the truss rods. They are straight in the cavity area, but are bent slightly at the adjustment end. The threads have sustained a bit of deformity particularly where the bend occurs and have begun to strip on one side of the bend.

So the first order of business, is to determine if they can be re-used or if replacements are advisable.
I imagine that I could straighten the bend and chase the threads using the adjustment nuts. I
will be adding tooth washers to the body end to take up some space, so I imagine
that the deformed area will play less of a role. Without the extra washers
the ends of the rods at the headstock end will prevent the TRC from
sitting flush. Check out the photos. What do you guys think?

Also the rods are wrapped in what appears to be masking tape. From reading
the forum, I gather this is standard practice. If the rods are re-used, do
I need to re-wrap them or am I OK with whats there?
