We have members in Florida; Tony is in Stuart, Jason is in Tampa, Mark is in Jacksonville and I can't recall where Andy is but I think he is in South Florida somewhere.

If back and neck/shoulders are a problem, for sure a 4004 series will be a welcome relief for you. I loved mine but sold it as I felt the neck to be too wide as it got closer to the body, more P Bass-like. I prefer the good ol' 4001/3 necks as they don't widen up so much.
I don't know if anyone will know this bass, but my first bass when I was 13 years old was a lawsuit Memphis Pbass with absolutely NO set up  and I was never told about how to set up a neck. O M G It was the worst possible thing to play in the world (it had beyond nose bleed high action on it >_<) but I learned on it and actually got fast on it. I do tend to prefer narrow and thin necks (and slight 'clacking' low action... think steve harris style) but will happily wrap my hand around a P neck with no problem. I have always wanted a neck with very little taper from nut to last fret but meh, Im used to a taper and as long as its not insane I won't even notice it.

Tony is in central FLA also. Last I knew he has 3 or 4 T40s. His back is pretty bad too.
Ive had a chance at several other T40s since I got one back but as crazy as this sounds, Im so into T40s and they are [to me] such an intense bass Im not sure I could handle more then one at the same time LOL I know, weird, right?

And there are femme lowenders here. Great!! We are few and far between thats for sure. The bass board I hang out on, there are few of us and Im one of the few and some have said the only female they know with a T40 @[email protected] I know why too LOL Thats ok Ive got something to put my BF back in line if he ever stepped out LOL that is if I could swing that puppy up and back (well I did once joking around and pulled something I didn't know I had >_<)...but hes a sweety so I won't have to worry about that. :P

Just an FYI on the 4004 that was in this thread, the seller (BDGOTOH) is a pretty respected guy on the Ernie Ball forum, in case anyone wanted to go after that one.

Hi guys,

I'm a female as well that's just about to join the Ric ranks. My new bass in the hands of UPS at the moment about 100 miles away. Nickie and I have been talking a lot over on Talkbass and I'm the one that got her GAS going for the RIcs. She'll never forgive me.

Hi Eaglemoon! I see your avatar is a yummy Jetglo Laredo? :P

And yes this forum is really cool. I knew next to nothing about Rics and I've already learned some just on my first day here. I also came in here just wanting a Laredo and then that or a 4003 and now Im looking at a 4001. LOL Its all good. Thin neck, and jetglo...thats my main goal. 8) PG no issue now since I found out where to get a black one. Oh yea case is important too...then again you'd know that Eaglemoon.

Eden.
My second bass was a Peavey T40. And then after getting out of the lowend and selling everything in the mid/late 80s or so and getting back into it last year, I started off with of all things, a Brownsville Bat. Then I got my hands on a 1992 Peavey Foundation and thats what kicked in my determination to get back 'the tree trunk' no matter what. I am so happy I did and nothing short of a life or death situation will EVER make me part with the one I have now!!!

By the way, Eden, their prices have plunged just after starting the inevitable climb that was bound to happen, Id grab a T40 now while the prices are back down lowish again if I were you!! They are starting to get harder to find. Im not sure how versed you are on T40s but there is a slight difference in pickup and sound between the later 70s 'toaster' 'buckers and the 80s 'blade' buckers. Also the solid colored T40s are a few ounces lighter than the bursts or the naturals. Black, White, and dark Tobacco Bursts are the rarest colors (as far as I know) as well as any finish with the rosewood fretboard. Do you research and then go hunting while the hunting is still good!!! ^_^

Get a used 4001 or a VERY VERY new 4003!

...by the way, nice to have lots of female bassists around! Make yourselves known. I think female players are still on the rise. Anyone heard of Tal Wilkenfeld?!?! :o :D :o :D

Actually it's not my first Ric. I had a 1973 Fireglo 4001 at one time, but it's been a LONG time since I've had that. So it might as well be my first one. :)

Thats what Im fast learning!! And Ive got my eye on an '81 Jetglo 4001 here that I hope the seller will work with me on time wise. If its meant to be it will happen, if not another will pop up.

Ive never really sat and thought about it but heres a few thoughts that come to mind as to why there are not that many female lowenders. Low bass tones tend to have a more masculine sound/feel to it. Female players perhaps to some degree might be a bit too 'refined' in their approach to the bass or feel they shouldn't play them as there isn't anything that can be 'ladylike' about them??? Just some musings here. Bass is gritty and LOW and harder in tone then I think some women care to deal with??? There are great female bass players and I think the axe is misunderstood by many in both genders that just don't understand the instrument. I will lay it down hard and heavy with some mosh pit slamming riff and then 'in your face' go off on something intricate, soft and mental. Im not afraid to go from one extreme to the other on a bass. And I think some women may not feel like they can get down and sweaty and dirty with 4 strings like we all hear and see or make it work for something soft and intricate.

The bass is the best 'guitar' out there IMO and theres still much uncharted territory with them I think. I also think some women won't consider them because the strings can be heavier and harder and the average sized bass is huge compared to a guitar. A good friend of mine has a daughter thats almost 13 and pretty tall and big for her age. She wants to learn bass or guitar so badly. I handed her my little '92 Peavey Foundation and all she could say was how big the beast was. LOL And its tiny as basses go IMO.

Anyway those are just a few thoughts from this femme lowender. Dunno if other women here will agree with me or not but those are my thoughts. ^_^
