A good friend who has the studio North if Malibu records at, at one time worked for me at a record store...he knew these guys and was close to being the replacement for the guitarist..they broke up never happened but turned him away from Arrowsmith for awhile :D Jellyfish made only 2 cd's but great stuff...

They are more reminiscent of the Association than the BBs to me, George. I'm gonna have to locate those albums...

True, I saw The Association many times at The Ice house in Pasadena way back when and they do remind me of them...the middle eight in this previous song..the acapella part reminds me of the Beach Boys..

If you like Jellyfish, check out former member Jason Falkner's solo stuff (esp JF Presents Author Unknown) as well as the Grays only disc (Ro Sham Bo).

And Joseph Manning, the keyboard guy, plays with Beck and has done a ton of studio work. Very cool band. They just didn't come around at the right time. They didn't mix well with the whole "grunge" thing that was happening at the time. You don't see to many drummers that stand up front.

Got to see them in the early 90s opening for World Party. Great show.

Now that would have been a great bill.

IMO, Jellyfish's first record ("Bellybutton") is the better of the two. Studio trickery and a Queen obsession overtook the second record.

Not to mention no Jason Faulkner on Spilt Milk.

I'm a big fan. Agreed that they came around at the wrong time musically. I don't mind the Queen obsession on the second album!

I often point people to their second album as an example of excellent use of the Hofner viola bass and all its requisite quirks.
