What are your favourite effects to use with your Ric?

Post by hawksmoor »

Hello,

I know it is a very open and widely subjective issue, not to mention that the tone of a Rickenbacker is delightful enough alone, but I am curious to hear what people are using and enjoy using with their guitars in the form of effects. Apologies in advance if a similar topic is floating around on this forum. As far as I have glimpsed, I have not seen one in relation to this point.

Many thanks.

The only overdrive/distortion box Ive ever gotten along with is a Tubescreamer. Other than using that for alittle boost, I may plug into a compressor now and then. And very rarely a touch of delay. I don't even use reverb much anymore.

All of these...and an EBow. :D
pedal board excess pedals out horiz shrink wrap.JPG
I suppose I should list the pedals L-R:
Ibanez Analog Rotary Chorus
Van Amps sole Mate Reverb Unit
Boss DD5 Digital Delay
Ibanez Soundtank Compressor (low budg-but it actually works pretty well)
Ibanez TS10 Tube Screamer (I have a Tube Screamer plus with the upgrades, but this one works great, so it stays!)
Danelectro Daddy-O Distortion
Boss Pedal Tuner
DOD A/B box turned around backwards so I can leave two guitars plugged in at once and switch without fumbling around switching cables on a dark stage mid song or between songs.

The Vox Wah and Boss Flanger were taken out of the pedal board for that shot because I was packing the pedal board to take on a plane for a gig in Chicago and wasn't using those two pedals for the set the band was going to play, so I left them out. :D

Nice pedal board set up Paolo. Do you prefer the Boss DD series delays over other delay pedals? Which version of the Boss DD have you got?

Thanks. I should have listed everything, so I went back and edited the post with all of the details. It's a Boss DD5 Digital Delay. I went with a Boss Delay because of all the cool features it had in a pedal, and due to the my past experience with the quality of Boss pedals. The pedal has since been surpassed by the DD6 and DD7, but I usually only use 3 different settings max when I play live as it is, so I don't need anything fancier. Here's a list of all the features: http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetai ... ductId=141

I really like the Danelectro mini effects, and not just because they're cheap. Unless you are looking for a super squashed sound, the Surf & Turf Compressor does the job. The PB&J delay, to my surprise, is the best sounding delay I've owned.

I use 20' of guitar cable.
That's it.
After getting the AC-15, the marraige is so perfect with my 330 and 360/12, both with toasters, that I don't need anything else.
I'm a rhythm player in all of my bands...I guess if I was a lead player, I'd probably have some effects...but for me and what I play, I ain't messing with perfection.

None on guitar or bass, save for compression.

All I'm using these days is a Boss CE-2 Chorus, a Boss Rotary Speaker emulator twin pedal, a Janglebox, the built in chorus on the Roland JC-120, and some of the effects in my Fender Cyber Twin. I used to get silly with effects but I play less silly music these days.

Richard Cannata and I agree that our favorite pedal to use with our Rickenbackers, both on and offstage, is the Boss TU-2. It's fairly essential to a good sound.

Yuk yuk.

Anyway, no effects in the loop for me right now, but some boosty things like a THD HotPlate and a ratty MXR Micro Amp. I do have an Ibanez UE405 that I want to mess around with a bit...

Just the reverb and the great sounding tremolo on my Princeton Reverb amp.
