There seems to be a humungous industry attempting to re-produce/invent/engineer the 1957 Chevy, as if this were the Holy Grail of cars.

Well now, Holy Grail is a religious quest, not a technological one. Sometimes, if you want to capture the feeling of the original moment, you have to go back to the 57 Chevy, or the John Lennon 320. That helps you get a mental/emotional snapshot that may please you immensely. Until you realize that rigs of that era had substandard brakes and inferior ergonimocs and safety features compared to those of today

But that is not to say that cars haven't improved since 57, or that the RIckenbacker crew has not learned a thing or two in the last 50+ years leading to a better product.

I don't see much stuff with that much white or checkered binding in the modern catalog.
