I received my 370/12 today and it's TORTURE.

I think I'm going to cut the wait time down, because I really want to have it for rehearsals tomorrow night!

Guys, taking the guitar out of the delivery carton will definitely speed up the process. The finish of the case isn't going to check ...and the cardboard and packing material only serve to help insulate the guitar even more from the outside temperature, meaning the guitar inside is going to take longer to warm up. Remove the case from the box...just don't open the case until the metal latches on the case are no longer cold to the touch. At that point, there's no longer any danger to the finish of the guitar.

Mine's outside of the box (which was just a thin little guy), and the latches appear to be warm.

Is it really safe?

I'm being a dork... but this is the most expensive guitar I've ever bought! haha.

Whoa! Beg to differ here, and wish new owners to err on the side of conservatism...The locks on the outside being non-frosty aren't any sort of guarantee that the guitar will be OK to unpack and play. Take care...YMMV on this!

When I used to live in the Twin Cities area and had guitars shipped to me (including a few Ricks), I always used that rule of thumb. Based on my experiences, if the metal parts of the case are warm to the touch, the temperature differential between the inside of the case and the outside is not going to be large enough to cause any finish problems. Sure, the temperatures may not be exactly the same, but the couple of degrees difference isn't going hurt anything.

If you're really worried, you can wait out the 48 hours and err on the side of caution. But as I said, I've never had a problem using this method.

There is a setting on my microwave that is for Rickenbackers.

Jim, maybe I'm just saying this now. But I don't think I could ever order a guitar and wait more than a few months for it.

Yeah, I thought about ya the other day. I heard some 370/12's were finished and shipped out, I thought maybe some 360/12's would go out with them, because it's only an extra pickup etc.....I thought you might just get yours before Christmas. No such luck though, eh? I think we're all waiting with you!!


As for heating up guitars.....my only comment is that this a really good reason I'm glad to live in sunny southern California!! No waiting to open a box, as even if it left a cold climate, it's been slowly heating up in UPS trucks all the way out here!! I don't know if I could wait that long, staring at the box!

Ok, I cheated!

I popped it open to take a quick peek (I'm horrible I know) and while I did felt the guitar (on the front and inside the soundhole) and it was perfectly warm!

Upon a quick inspection... the guitar is amazing and lived up to, if not exceeded, my expectations on the finish/grain!

It's safe back in it's case.. didn't want to push it.
