Minicon before, during, or after Winter NAMM?

Saturday is also probably not a good night for most Rickenbacker fans, as Deke Dickerson's Guitar Geek Festival in Anaheim is on then, which this year will include the "Rickenbacker Bakelite Band."
As Deke said about the show "This is a wild concept and a mammoth undertaking that i don't think has ever been attempted before. I've coordinated with several guitar collectors and musicians to put together a band who all play vintage 30's and 40's Rickenbacker instruments, including an original "Vibrola" motorized spanish guitar, a regular round neck bakelite spanish, two tenor bakelite spanish, several bakelite lap steels, Orange County ukelele legend Travis Harrelson playing his metal-bodied Rickenbacker electric uke, and our bass player is playing one of the aluminum 'stick' Rickenbacker basses from the 30's! This should be a unique event and I think everybody will be jazzed up about it."
I presume that's why Kenny mentioned he had plans that evening.

Wow, that sounds very interesting. I hope that it will be documented, or at the very least a nice feed off of the mixing board.....it would be great to hear all of those instruments.
Re: Minicon before, during, or after Winter NAMM?
Oh man, I gotta hear that!!!
Re: Minicon before, during, or after Winter NAMM?
Deke Dickerson had a band a few years back called the Dave & Deke Combo. The Dave half of that, Dave Stuckey, was the lead singer/rhythm guitarist in my first covers band back in high school. As if that weren't odd enough, considering the kind of music Dave & Deke play, our high school was back in Kansas City, Ks. One of our drummers from high school is out here too. We even all had the same music theory class in school. How we all ended up out here, I have no idea.

Ditto that! Deke Dickerson is amazing; he's the Danny Elfman of the whole twanger scene.jdogric12aolcom wrote:Oh man, I gotta hear that!!!

Ahhh, the advantages of being the Boss-man!johnhall wrote:It is, if you considering striking the Rickenbacker NAMM booth a posh affair. B U M P ! ! !
Okay, so who can make it Friday night the 16th? Ya'll don't have to be there for the entire time, start to finish, and we can always start later, say 7-11PM, or 8-12PM.
Anyone? Anyone? Members of the cat herd
?
What do we call it? NAMMinicon?
Anyone know a non-certifiable, non-exploding drummer
?

As of yesterday, I'm now unemployed, so unless that changes, I'll be there! Just where is the question. Need to be picked up from an airport or anything John?

OUCH!!! Sorry to hear you're unemployed. I hope that DOES change, but that you're still able to make the minicon, of course.aceonbass wrote:As of yesterday, I'm now unemployed, so unless that changes, I'll be there! Just where is the question. Need to be picked up from an airport or anything John?
We'll probably have the NAMMinicon/Catherdicon in the showcase room at either Sound Matrix or Bomb Shelter Rehearsal studios in Garden Grove, off Beach Blvd. and the 22 freeway. Hmm, I wonder if there are any rehearsal studios closer to where NAMM's being held that are just as good. I will look this up.
Okay, so far that's
Dane
Joey
Me
Rich Ferguson
John Biscuti
Gary?
Scott?
Alison, Jerry, can you make it Friday night?
How about the RIC folks?
Rumor has it that Jdog and Graham will be there as well.

I'm trying to scare up a ticket... don't know if it will happen. I really hope it does.

Thanks Paul. I haven't spent more than two weeks out of work in the last sixteen years, but I've always worked for GM dealers and we all know what's going on with them now. I'm kind of glad for the time off though and look forward to an opportunity to congregate with the faithful. By the way, I don't have a ticket to NAMM either this year. Hint hint...

Paul, you mentioned Sound Matrix. Did you mean Backline Studios, formerly known as Sound Arena?
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

Joey (& Paul) -- I was thinking the same thing... Backline is down the road (on the other side of GG Blvd) from Bombshelter Studio, but Sound Matrix is much further away, down in Fountatin Valley.
The Showcase room at Backline is a much wider stage than the one at Bombshelter... maybe not as long or deep on the other dimension as Bombshelter (for the "audience" section), but definitly more musicians, mic stands and amps can be comfortably across the stage at the same time at Backline... the costs are pretty similar I think as Bombshelter.
