Abbey Road bass sound

Post by fireglo »

The bass on this album sounds distorted. Do you think Paul is using a distortion pedal or going direct into the board and overdriving the input?

Any songs in particular you're interested in? I distinctly hear Hofner, 4001s, and Jazz throughout.

Other than "MMM" I don't really hear any bass distortion.

True, according to Recording the Beatles, many bass track were DI's on Abbey Road. Direct Injection. On some tracks he used a Fender Bassman.

Ok, Not counting Mean Mr. Mustard, I hear distorted bass sound on Something and Sun King. Sounds like he plays a bit too hard and the sound distorts. I always wondered if it was on purpose or it just happened and they thought it sounded good and left it.

I should have been more specific. Sorry about that Chief!
