Cheap shipping for large parcel?

Post by kennyhowes »

Ladies & Gentlemen:

I have a large, heavy speaker cabinet that I would like to transport from the east coast of the lower 48 to my home here in California. I don't want to pay big bucks for the task, nor am I in a big hurry for it.

Anyone have a similar experience? What are my options?

Underground Rickenbacker Railroad??

Any East Coasters driving out to California anytime soon? If you're patient, that'd be your best bet I think.

Try calling Greyhound Parcel Express. Inform them as to size--even they have limits. I've shipped amplifiers and combo organs with no damage at good rates--the last organ weighed 75 pounds, was large, and cost $38.50 from upstate NY. Only drawback is you have to deliver and pick up from the bus station.

Another option is a local moving company!

I've used this trick before. Get the number to a few local movers in the area.

When they move a family out to your neck of the woods, they will make a pickup and put it on the van if there is room (and there usually is).

I've done it a few times before. The only thing is that is SHOULD be packed and ready to go (some company's pack too) and the only draw back is the LONG wait to get it.

Cheapest method I've found!
