Gary,
Thanks for the pics! And it's nice to see the progression! I don't see many pics of one with the lights exposed like that! And it's great to see it lighting up!!!!!!!
Your basses are gorgeous, too, by the way! Did you say you're a "hack" bassist? Image I doubt that...

Yeah you just had to show a picture of a Redneck didn't you? I have a nice home for it when you decide to sell it.

Kendall and Jared, that Redneck was an eBay sleeper a couple of years back. The dealer didn't know what it was and had some generic "Rickenbacker Bass" title for the ad. Additionally, the pictures in the ad were really bad and didn't show the red fretboard very well. I suspected what it was, and downloaded the pictures and tweaked them enough to discern the micro dot markers and then knew what it was. I think I paid only $800 plus shipping for it.

I remember that auction, I was at Ft Carson and couldn't bid. So when do we cut a deal? Image

Gary - that's EXACTLY how I found my Shadow two months ago on CraigsList.com! The generic (and misspelled) "Rickenbacher bass" title, the dark lousy picture, tweaking it with PhotoShop and discovering the black dots on the fretboard and the checkered binding... Only I paid $750!

That's one nice bass, Ilan! There are some bargains to be found out there, it just takes patience, and as in our cases (no pun intended), a little extra effort.

Kendall, I'll put you in the #1 position on my sell-to list for the Redneck, but it won't be anytime soon, for sure ...

By the way, Mike Parks has dibs on the 4000FL BG (he was drooling when I told him about it shortly after I bought it).

Gary
I'll remember that! The weird thing about your bass, was right after you got it a Redneck 8 string came up for sale, if I remember correctly it sold for approx 1400. From what I can gather there were 38 Rednecks, 11 of which were 8 stringers.

Yep, I remember that, and I bid on it but wasn't bidding high enough.

Too bad there aren't any 8-string Tuxedos and Blackstars ... or are there?

Hey Gary - want to see the "before" pic? (with an ugly w/b/w guard - probably to match the cat):

That's the "before" you restored it, but "after" you lightened up the listing pic. I remember when you found it, the pic was so dark you couldn't even see the cat.

Great find.

I haven't seen any 8 string models, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I do know of a leftie 5 string "blackstar" though.

Yikes! That's like selling an igloo using a picture of it taken in a snowstorm ...
