Yikes!Advice needed concerning my 360v63

Post by octagon »

Ok,My guitar is all thawed out now,so I pulled it out of the case to give it a closer inspection. The neck is straight,no visible wear on frets, plenty of room for adjustment on the bridge.Electronics are fine.Needs new strings as expected .

Only thing is,I found a few cosmetic defects I hadn't expected:there are some scratches on the back of the bass horn,a few smaller ones on the back and small chip at the top of the head stock in the rear. They doesn't bug me that much really. It's just that the auction said "there are no knicks or buckle marks" so I was suprized to see them. Maybe scratches don't count as knicks?I could send it back for a refund but I really don't want to.Do you think these defects seriously devalue the guitar(I paid $1800 for it) Do you think these scratchs are a big problem to repair(scratch-x/Zymol)? Would you send it back? Any opinion or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I can't speak for the seller, but he/she probably meant 'worming' that is caused by belt buckles and is more of an indentation in the finish, not a surface scratch.

I'm thinking that Scratch-X/Zymol will take the scratches out.

And, since it's Jetglo, fixing chips is a bit easier too. There are a few threads on the forum on how to use black nail polish to cover them. I have no idea how big a chip can be and still get covered with this method though.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Mitch----you got a killer v64 for $1800. That's a steal, my friend. I'd be looking on that bright side, instead of dwelling on a couple of scratches that can be polished out no problem.

Just my $.02

Good point Collin, that was a great price for one.

Mitch...man...I'd keep the guitar. If it's what you want, if it plays like you dreamed it would, if it jangles just right...keep it, and hang the cosmetics.

Mitch, check out a few of the threads here and on the RIC factory forum on Scratch-X and Zymol, only because there are detailed scratch instructions there. You can use very fine Wet or Dry sandpaper for scratches that Scratch-X won't take out, and also 3M rubbing compound. Both of these precede the Scratch-X application stage.

Check it out.

To me, a "nick" usually refers to a small area of finish trauma which sees clearcoat and/or color missing. Sometimes it's down to the wood.

You got a friggin' BARGAIN, buddy.

They come trimmed from the factory, IIRC. They're D'Addarios - note the colored ends.

Actually, forget my last post Mitch......that is a horrible scratch, it ruins the guitar completely, you got ripped off...so I'm throwing you a bone here. You can just sell it down the river (to me!) for what you have into it! :D :D

All kidding aside, it's gorgeous! Rare model, even rarer color...play that thing!

Yeah, keep it! Cool guitar! Those scratches are definitely fixable, and all the more so due to the JG finish-no nail polish color mixing/guessing involved!

You got a killer deal, Mitch. Congrats. I'd love to have that guitar! I wish you many many hours of rich, jangly pleasure! And I wouldn't sweat the cosmetics one bit...it's all about the tone anyway. But at least you can take heart in knowing that if the finish blems really start to bug you, you can correct them with relatively little effort.

Well thanks guys,I definitely going to keep it.I think it's the coolest Rick I've had since I let Howard talk me into selling my 1997.Now I just have to figure which of my other guitar I can sell to pay for it.It's tough living on a fixed income.

Hey Mitch, I'm late jumping in but I agree with a lot of these posts : Great guitar! And at least the cosmetic stuff is on the back. You got a sweet deal - just a thought here, but maybe if you sent the seller a couple of pic's of the damaged areas, maybe they would kick back a little of your dough.
Ya know ,an "equitable adjustment" Anyway , enjoy that beauty- wish I had it!
