Chris Squire & his 4001 on cover of Bass Player
The January 2009 issue. CS is looking very baaaaad. He talks a bit about the bass - when he got it, a little about the finish changes over the years, etc. Not any new info as far as I know, but nice to see his beautiful old 4001 on the cover of BP, with a couple more pics inside.

I stopped reading Bass Player Magazine several years ago, but I'll pick up that issue with Chris Squire,

from most photos i've seen, chris' bass looks pretty immaculate for a 45 year old bass that's been played constantly over that period of time-i think chris is holding up real well too! (love the boots!)
Re: Chris Squire & his 4001 on cover of Bass Player
His bass has seen lots of repair and refinish work so, yes, it does look good.

I have seen him and the bass in St. Louis last week. Great show !!!!
Re: Chris Squire & his 4001 on cover of Bass Player
saw them in nashville last nite-chris is keeping the bass rotation low this time around, using the rick about 90% of the night. with special "guest" basses, the electra, lakland bob glaub pbass, and the FOOW 4003-s....no lime green boots at last nite's show, tho!

Looks like they used a V63 for that one.

Re: Chris Squire & his 4001 on cover of Bass Player
yep, that's what i meant-i presumed it was a 4003-s,v63 or some variant-couldn't tell from my seat if it had a horseshoe or a higain---it had a noticeably different sound from his main rick, seemed like a hotter, less distinct sound......
Re: Chris Squire & his 4001 on cover of Bass Player
The picture is configured like a V63, and my V63 has 12k toaster and RIHS, so if that is what this Fish bass is, it would sound hotter and less distinct than his RM which has lower wound pickups (about half the windings).
Re: Chris Squire & his 4001 on cover of Bass Player
The FOOW bass looks more like a C64 without the reverse headstock; it has the same pickguard and tailpiece as a C64, not a V63.
