This one was discussed before.

I think the seller got a serious reality check after his first attempt...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I'm with you CJ. It ran it's course with the high initial bid and higher BIN, and now he has a new auction and let it open up to actual bidding.

The guy was out of his mind. I saw a mint '73 in the U.K sell for £1795. That's about $2700 U.S. dollars. I can see that kind of money for an pristine instrument from a collector, but not a buckle-rashed beater with a aftermarket bridge. I guess there are suckers out there that see a checker and go for it —but gimme a break!

Maybe this should be another thread, but what are the opinions of you fellow Forumites regarding the rising prices of Ric basses these days —gloomy economic state of the world aside ....

This won't be popular but I have a feeling that with this year's price hike and the unwillingness of dealers to discount like they did that owning a new Rick will become an elitist thing, and vintage will keep going up. I think right now it is stagnating or even regressing from just previous high levels because money is tighter and a lot of instruments are coming up for needed cash and there isn't as much money to speculate with. IMHO

I think you might be right, but look at the price that 4005 just went for. (below)

Olivia's does it again! 4005 Price Record?

Well folks, it looks like the price of a 1966 4005 just went up!
SOLD for $15,900.00!
Is this the new high water mark?

I guess there will always be rich people that inflate the costs —but overall I think the fever is going to end. It's like the global financial crisis —it's rooted in the fact people thought the sky was the limit ... well it is not. And for those of us that just want to collect a few nice examples, play them and keep them (not flip them) I would be happy to see prices drop a tad.

My 2 cents ...
