What do you think of the price of Rics these days?

Olivia's does it again! 4005 Price Record?

Well folks, it looks like the price of a 1966 4005 just went up!
SOLD for $15,900.00!
Is this the new high water mark?

I guess there will always be rich people that inflate the costs (and greedy dealers) —but overall I think the fever is going to end. It's like the global financial crisis —it's rooted in the fact that people thought the sky was the limit ... well it is not. And for those of us that just want to collect a few nice examples, play them and keep them (not flip them) —I would be happy to see prices drop a tad. Even as I write this ... I'm not sure —there is something addictive about knowing you have a valuable gem in the studio or basement that you play and freak every time it gets a new ding or the toddler puts his peanut-butter fingers on it ... what do you peeps think?

I don't freak if a ding gets in an instrument, but I have to say I am thrilled this 4005WB finally sold.

Prices have dropped (at least on ebay) from what they were six months ago, unless you're looking at rare examples. Nice used 4001 and 4003's are selling for hundreds less than they might have brought a few months ago.

And if you look at the completed listings you will see that a 1967 4005WB sold for $6500, and it was in much better condition than Olivia's.

I dunno about that, Jeff. This one just appears to have some normal player wear - doesn't yours have holes drilled in it for a Badass, changed wiring, and enlarged holes for the tuners?

Why didn't I buy that 4005 with a checked finish that a nearby GC had for $2,599.00 just a few years ago? Why, oh why?!?

The condition of the finish is what I was considering, but yes, there are some mods on it which can be taken care of. Some day I will put the NOS set of tuners I got from RIC on it.

Getting ready for a Lemon Antennas gig. What are you doing tonight? Come on down and check us out! 8)

Some day I will have someone refinish the bass and take care of the little things that have been done to it over the decades, at that time the new tuners will be put on.

I thought the RIC prices had fallen badly . My wife purchased a near mint JG325V59 last april for $2151. Soon after she saw and purchased a new AFG1996 for $2500. She loves and is keeping forever the 1996 so the 325V59 was to be sent to ebay. I do the buying and selling and watching on ebay and the 325s were hovering around $1700-$1900 for awhile. I noticed there were several for sale recently so I ran the ad for the 325 with a $2495 BIN/free shipping. Sold yesterday. I worried about the prices for nothing. I guess it is all subjective. If somebody is looking to buy ,with the desire to pay ,the seller is free to ask for any amount.
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !
