Saw Yes last Sunday

Post by dgwguitars »

For those of you who have the opportunity to see Yes in their current tour, I would highly recommend doing so. I saw them this last Sunday at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, which is a very small venue in a converted old church in downtown Atlanta. Although they were billed as Steve Howe, Chris Squire and Alan White of Yes, they were virtually the real thing, with Jon Anderson's role being taken by Benoit David of the Montreal Yes tribute band "Close to the Edge", and Oliver Wakeman taking over for his father. This is the first time I have seen any of the members of Yes in concert, and I was simply blown away. The level of musicianship was first rate, with there not being chink in the armor anywhere. Benoit David has and incredible voice that meshed perfectly with Chris Squire, and soared on their extended version of "Close to the Edge", which was to me the high point of the concert. Each did their own turn at soloing, and Steve How did a solo mini-set on a classical guitar. Chris Squire played his Rickenbacker for most of the concert, but used another bass that I couldn't recognize. I knew he was a first-rate bassist, but I was still floored at how good he was. And then there's Steve Howe. Looking like a college professor, he tore through some of the cleanest, fastest licks I've ever seen. A spectacular guitarist, to say the least. All in all, the 2 1/2 hour concert ranks right up there with the most memorable. Again, if you have a chance to see them - don't hesitate.

Didn't mean to cause an oops, just letting you know more about the tour and other member's impressions.
