Neck infor on Ric 430

Post by Bill_Ashton »

I am slowly working on a basket-case 430 that was given to my son. Apparently the neck was twisted and one of the truss rods stripped trying to straighten it. The second owner pulled all the frets off and thought he could sand the fingerboard to correct it.

OK, my tool-maker father has repaired the truss rods and made the little aluminum stop that they bear against. We've set up a table to clamp the neck into "no relief" if needed, when we reinstall the truss rods (not unlike the Stew-Mac one).

My questions are, what is the correct neck radius and what would the proper fret size be. Would Stew-Mac #147 frets be correct? I have a friend who had done refretting before and will help me with this.

Obviously a "project," my son is learning to solder on the controls...the old girl will need new p'ups I am afraid.

Thanks for your help...

You must have a volt/ohm meter...do the pickups have any reading on the resistance setting?

If not they may be able to be fixed .
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!
