The cool, sturdy form-fitted 70's 4001 case

I was just scanning eBay when I came across this cool 4001S AZ:

In the text of the ad, the seller states that included in the auction is: "...the original Blue interior, Henley Case. Made in England."

I'm just curious to know if any of you can confirm that these cases were in fact made in England by Henley.

My March '73 4001 came with one of those, the blue one, not the Fender Orange one.

They are nice for sure but the best fitted cases are these.
I don't know what year they were made but I would love to get about 10 more!

Steve, Ameritage can make you an identical case to that one, except it's covered in ballistic nylon and not Tolex. Cost for 10 would be about $4250.00.

My '73 rests in a case that has a red interior, the form fitting feels harder than in other 70's cases. It feels like molded plastic is under the whore house plush.

Those are really cool Joey/Steve. I don't think I ever knew about those. Thanks for posting photos of them.

Looks like they might have similar hardware/handles and be a fore-runner of the blue-lined cases from the late 70's that I posted in the beginning of this thread.

Perhaps the case itself is the one for a 4005 with a different interior?

I really don't know, Steve. It came with that 4001 when I bought it used about five and a half years ago. I just assumed it was original to the bass, but I could wrong. Maybe JH can give us some info on the year(s) that case was issued?

My '79 4001 rests in case just like the one in ad the and that Greg posted.
My '75 4001 rests in a case just like it, but the whorehouse plush is black.
I think the black interior found in these cases was late '70's/early 80's.

I had a '74 4001 that did not have the form fitted case. It had an all black tolex exterior and blue plush lining. Around the body, the case was just rectangular. I've got a picture of the bass in it's case, but I can't post it 'cause it's on a slide (remember those?). I need to find some way to get it scanned in.

My '84 4003 has a semi-form fitted case. It has a curved piece around the lower curve of the body that comes a bit over the body and holds it in. It's got a kind of brown fur-ish lining.
