That particular silver lining seems to have by-passed Britain.
'We' have just chosen our latest pasteurised pop star, courtesy of the X-Factor and the telecom companies.
I know there has alxays been the element of manufactured pop, but c'mon! The corporate 'box-tickers' are having a real good laugh whilst raking in the spodulicks.
The 'best' bits of these programs are the auditions, where many people with (what are essentially) mental health issues are exploited for what passes these days as entertainment. When I was a kid there were still 'minstrel' shows on telly; they were removed as offensive, yet it's okay to watch someone debase themselves in the belief that they have 'The X Factor'. God, I never realised how annoyed it made me!
Rant over- time for a calming cup of coffee!

I managed to upset my partner when she jokingly suggested she should enter, and without thinking (NO!) I replied along the lines of 'do you think you could handle the criticism?'
Our local florist likes me very much now.
