Rick-O-Sound questions
Last week I went playing with my band to practice. We play a kind of alternative stoner rock.
I use a Ampeg V4 as head. It's a fabulous sound in combination with my Rics, but the 100Watt is a little too less.
Now I'm thinking to finally use the Rick-O-Sound feature. I will use the gritty Ampeg V4 for the bridge pickup and the neck pickup will go to a Peavey T-Max. Now I still need to buy a second cabinet, 'cause I only have one right now. Should that new cabinet for the neck pickup have the same size of speakers/cones as the speakers/cones in the cabinet I will be using for the bridge pickup?
Where can I find a good stereo cable online? Do I need anything else?
Thanks guys and happy holidays.

Re: Rick-O-Sound questions
Your second cabinet can have whatever speaker configuration you wish. It's not necessary for both cabinets to have the same size/amount/brand of speakers.
The stereo cable on the home page at http://www.pickofthericks.com/ is pretty nice.

Re: Rick-O-Sound questions
Hello Philip. I do agree with what Eric said, but I did customize my own set up a little differently. I use a Genz Benz 2-10 neo cabinet for the bridge p/up and a much deeper sounding Aguilar 2-12 cabinet for the neck p/up. I did this for obvious reasons. While it is true that any cabinet will reproduce the unique sound of each p/up, I decided to use cabinets that were tuned to the sound I was looking for. Since the Aguilar has considerably more bottom, and the Genz Benz has greater high end, the separation between the two gives me more of that great 'stereo' sound I was looking for.
In hind sight, I wish I had checked with pickofthericks before I bought a stereo cable. I use a Planet Waves TRS to TRS cable with a Monster TRS to TS/TS Y cable. While this cable set up works well, I could have saved a few dollars by buying the combined cable that is available from pickofthericks and eliminated the need to have two cables plugged together.
Once you have the additional cabinet and the male stereo to two male mono cable, there is nothing else you will need.

It's on the HOME PAGE. Go to www.pickofthericks.com and scroll down that page. It's just below the picture of the Rickenbacker t-shirt.

Re: Rick-O-Sound questions
Another thing to try is a guitar amp on the bridge pup. This has been done by some of the greats —people like Chris Squire for example. I've done it with my Ampeg on the neck pup and a Marshall guitar stack on the bridge. It is a pretty big sound. Problem is I also use a 4003 S/8 and a custom Jazz bass, both of which have mono outputs so I've concentrated on getting big tone using my Boss GT-10B through my Ampeg —less cables and less junk to haul around. But you should try it and see if it is what you need to get the sound you imagine voicing.
Re: Rick-O-Sound questions
Yeah I also have a V63, so I can;t use the Rickosound with this bass.
How did Squire use rick-o-sound with his mono output bass?

Re: Rick-O-Sound questions
Chris rewired it stereo.
Re: Rick-O-Sound questions
I'll probably go for a Bayou-O-Sound Box with a Bayou stereo cable;
Custom Stereo Cables (click to select options)
- 1st connector Neutrik TRS stereo black/gold straight
- 2nd connector Neutrik TRS stereo black/gold straight
- Color black
- Length 16 feet
Is this a bad idea?

Re: Rick-O-Sound questions
Not a bad idea, but the Bayou o sound box is unnecessary if you just buy a quality stereo Y cable like on the POTR site.

Re: Rick-O-Sound questions
Is the quality stereo Y cable on the POTR site long enough for on stage?
