Re: nut material?
It is the same material as the one on my '67 4005WB.

and that would be...?jps wrote:It is the same material as the one on my '67 4005WB.
Re: nut material?
I am waiting for that just like you are!
I always assumed something like a nylon derivative as it is pretty slippery.

Re: nut material?
Paul hasn't responded, so I will give it a shot: "Bakelite". Adolf Rickenbacker always loved to find new and varied uses for the stuff... I believe they use "Delrin" now.

He probably started his NYE party a bit earlier than the rest of us.CrestingWave wrote:Paul hasn't responded, so...

Re: nut material?
<hic>
I don't think the nut pictured is Bakelite--it's too shiny. I think it's Delrin, possibly a replacement for the original.
Party? Me? I'm painting guitars today--first time in over two weeks that I can; that cold snap backed my schedule up again...

The one on my '67 4005WB looks just like that and it is original to the bass, so...jingle_jangle wrote:I think it's Delrin, possibly a replacement for the original.
Re: nut material?
Delrin was invented in 1952 and in full production by 1960, so they could have used it on your '67. I don't know whether they did though.jps wrote:The one on my '67 4005WB looks just like that and it is original to the bass, so...jingle_jangle wrote:I think it's Delrin, possibly a replacement for the original.![]()
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I can attest weather can be a major pain in the rear with regards to a paint schedule. I feel your pain brother Paul.jingle_jangle wrote:I'm painting guitars today--first time in over two weeks that I can; that cold snap backed my schedule up again...

Re: nut material?
The nut on my '65/66, 450-12 was Bakelite, as was the replacement for the same guitar sent to me by Ric in '68 or so... what happened after that as far as spec's. go, I am not sure.jps wrote:The one on my '67 4005WB looks just like that and it is original to the bass, so...jingle_jangle wrote:I think it's Delrin, possibly a replacement for the original.![]()
The replacement Bakelite nut was very shiny on the wider top and bottom surfaces and more matte on the face where it had been filed or sanded to match the fretboard radius. For what it is worth anyway.

Re: nut material?
Best way to tell is the bite test. And it's tough to bite a CRT.
Re: nut material?
Hi, do you think that this nut http://cgi.ebay.it/43mm-X-6mm-RESIN-BAS ... 2c55cc3eac could be a good replacement for a damaged one?
Re: nut material?
The only Delrin we've ever used is white; if it's black and not aftermarket, it's polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride. Er, bakelite.
