Model of the Week Eight: The 3000 and 3001

The only 3000's that I've seen any documentation on were made in 1976. Is anyone aware whether they were all produced at that time?

I've been gassing for a 3000 but they are really hard to find. I even built a 3000-inspired shortie just for the hell of it (but I won't hijack the thread with that!).

Wow, I've played both the 3000 and the 3001 and never noticed the bodies were different sizes. It is cool seeing them together like that.

A couple of years ago you cold find 3000s and 3001s for like 450 dollars. You see them pop up on eBay now and then. A friend of mine had an Autumnglo 3001 which was also '76. One would almost think it's the only year....

The same with the 4005 and 4005WB. All of them seem to be made just in a couple of years.

There are 14 of the model 3000 listed on the Register, all made in 1976.

There are 19 of the model 3001 listed, with build dates from 1976 to 1979.

One of those 3001's is mine, a Walnut from 1979.

All of the 3000's in the registry have Feb.-May 1976 build dates. It looks to me like it was a small and short run.

Yes there is here . I would'nt subscribe to it though. They even have difficulty getting the issues to Belgium so USA would be another story. Could be an interesting story though.

Gary "Mani" Mounfield is an English rock bassist, formerly of The Stone Roses and currently in Primal Scream. He has a distinctive rich playing style that combines a fast moving rock style with a dance rhythm or dub groove. During The Stone Roses first album period Gary became synonymous with a Rickenbacker 4005 Jackson Pollock-influenced paint splattered bass guitar.

Well, what do you know about THAT? I am majorly off topic here (not an uncommon occurrence), but does anyone have pics of that 4005?

Thanks Berth! Yeah, we have some issues with distributing our X-mass issue, which drives me nuts. It's a Dutch bass magazine, but I'm trying to get Mani for an interview for a long time. If I speak to him I''ll post an English version of it here!
