A truly silly thread... What does a RIC sound like?

Post by Ontario_RIC_fan »

I apologize in advance for this one! :-)

Over the years, I scratched my head to come up with a word that describes the unique sound of a Rickenbacker guitar (620/610's in my case)...

The best word I could come up with was "Brrraaaannng"... You have to roll the R's, like the Scottish do in order to get the sense of it...

My RIC's always had a distinctive "Brrrraaannng" sound...

Anyone else invent a word to describe the sound of their guitar? Jingle-Jangle would be a cool one too for the 12 strings...

My 660/12 sounds like gentle rainfall on a summer afternoon in Kauai.

My 4000 sounds like a bull-terrier with a really bad attitude after it's been stung by a wasp.

Ritchie Fleiger, in his "Amps!" book, describes a Rickenbacker 12-string played through a Vox Super Beatle as sounding like "a blizzard of nails."

I also remember a Review of The jam from years ago where someone described Foxton`s Rickenbacker sounding like gravel thrown in a tin bath!

The Rickenbacker sound is an undisputed pillar of popular music history.
The tone that breathes from the pickups (Higain or Toaster) is truly unique, and the maple construction and semi-hollow/solid body add their particular influence to the mix.
The vast tonal palette of a Rickenbacker is hugely underestimated. From a clean chiming jangle to an overdriving beast, every sound made is pure joy.
What does a Ric sound like?
Truly awesome, in the true sense of a rather over-used word.
