a bit. I have been reading the periodic posts by Paul W. regarding various Gretsches he has worked on... I had to give them a try.

For Christmas I got myself a Gretsch G6128-1957, an early re-creation of George Harrison's Duo Jet, of "Cavern Club" fame. The Dynasonic pickups on the Duo Jet have a great "twangy" rock-n-roll sound, which is very distinctive.



Then I began thinking about a guitar with "Filter-trons" and real "f holes" [and not the "simulated" variety] and that lead to a G6119, Tennesee Rose.



I still love my Rics, but a little variety in not a bad thing, eh?

I do sort of make out some smudges against a grey background.

I'd like another Gretsch also, a DuoJet would be nice with a vintage style G tailpiece, not the current, unoriginal looking one.

Gretsches are my second choice after Rickenbackers.

My first Gretsch was a G3967 "Historic" model from 2001, Korean made. Then I went through a series of Electromatic solid and hollow bodies, new and used, of which I kept all but one (A 5025 that I wish I still had...). The current count is around a dozen, of which roughly half are Professional hollowbodied Terada models.

Oh, then there's that Billy-Bo Penguin. I understand that Terada has made another batch, so it's not as rare as it once was, but it's still one of the 26 in the original run.

I like Gretsches as well; I have a few of them and they get a fair chunk of playing time, both in the studio and live! A Gretsch Jet in any finish is one of the most useful, cool looking, easy-playing, great sounding, trouble free guitars around IMHO! I especially like the Dynasonic-equipped models.

Good stuff John! Gretschs are pure eye candy, I have always loved their retro designs. Would like to someday get my hands on a corvette or duo jet myself.

Anyone have any experience playing the Rancher acoustics? Standard or Jr. I can't seem to find anywhere that carries them, but would love to check one out.

The Duo Jet didn't need anything in terms of "sprucing up" when it arrived, but the Rose benefited greatly from the "ritual" Paul W. PlastX and Zymoel treatment.

Well... this fellow kind of started out his pro career with a Duo Jet and went back to Gretsch, some two decades [more or less] later.



You could be in worse company, no...?

Yep, Mr. Harrison gave the Duo Jet to a friend and was re-gifted it back a couple of decades later on. Quite a gift coming back, as IMHO, Harrison's original Duo would be almost priceless in the collector market.

You CAN have one almost like it... albeit a wee bit newer!

Kira, you're not alone in GASsing for a Gretsch. There are three that I really like, any one of which I'd be pleased to own: G6120AM, or G6118T, and I really like this one. What a hoot!

Holy Molee, Jim, my old model could have been one just like those, but mine was all stripped down and ugly. I loved it!
