I guess since this is the only one I've ever seen in 30 years other than Macca's 'S', it has as good a chance of being THE one, but I have no knowledge. YMMV a lot. All I know is I've looked for one for ages and here it is.

The bridge p/up is an 80's vintage horseshoe, probably bought new.....all the wear on the upper shoe was made by a left-handed player. Tuners are older than what should be on it, like the mid-60s or RM basses. They are also geared left-handed... I suspect it has had some degree of finish work done to it, but I don't believe it is a total strip and refin.....one of the best I have ever seen....the color is spot-on with Andy Winter's Dec. '68 4001.

Peter: Henry would be the one to contact, but I don't know if the records exist for this or what his affiliation is since Sam Ash bought Manny's a while back.

Hi Chris...Yes, the same. I had known about it beforehand, but decided to come up to see Graham, Darren and Mike before they flew back....Dave Pascoe left early 'cause he had a cold I think, but the bass was there and I saw it in person....after playing it and looking at it I thought I'd better give it a try.

Congrats John! I spotted that bass and gave it a good long stare - what a gorgeous instrument. Glad to hear that it's gone to a good home :D

It's definitely Pete's Rickenbacker. One of our own Forumites has the missing knob!

Hmmm, my memory isn't as good as it once was. One of own Forumites told the story of the guy who still owns the missing knob from Pete's guitar.

The Hendrix / Who / Rickenbacker discussion pops up here fairly regularly. Have a search of old posts using Hendrix + Rickenbacker.
