You Can Never Know (Strange Peace)

Post by ram »

OK here’s one of Jack’s (guitarist) and mine’s (The Quantum Kids) with some words attached! Jack has a couple of friends he does stuff with, over the net, and sent them the tune. Henry threw some words to it and Blake did the Keyboards. So without further delay: You Can Never Know (Strange Peace)

Wow! Quite the epic piece, Tom. Nice job - yourself and all involved in this modem-based collaboration.

I'm put in the mind of some of my favorite prog influences here: King Crimson stands out in the beginning, with the vocals reminding me a lot of Ian Anderson, and I was pleased to hear that reference backed up by flute later on. Stylistically I hear a bit of Tull as well. Then when the mellow break comes in, I hear a bit of YES, especially in the Wakemanesque Mellotron sound. The guitar solo section at the end reminds me of Zebra and the huge guitar sound that guy had. Very classic sound all around. Leave it to the Quantum Kids camp to pull off such a venture!

Thanks Mark, what an esoteric mixture it presented to you. This had a strange evolution – it started as a warm-up rif I use and my guitarist (Jack) said it was cool and we would jam a bit on it. Finally the basic tune took shape but our drummer said he “didn’t get it”. So Jack said ‘hey let’s throw it out to these guys he has done other internet collaborations with’. The result was this tune… I only had one crack at it before I ever heard the Keyboards and Vocals (due to time constraints on my part). But all in all it was a fun experience and I was happy with the outcome. I hope you and others enjoyed it.
