I say this because there was an idiot at the local music store in April that told me strings make the difference. If you want a "twang" you use light strings...and then I zoned out on him :P

Strings do make a difference, but no gauge is better than another. It's all preference.

Strings do make a difference, but no gauge is better than another. It's all preference.
Agreed, If I'm playing something in hopes of getting it to twang, and to make chickenpicking easier, I prefer a stiffer string, and with rounds, that usually means bigger strings.

Well, considering that I'm quite new to the world of electric guitars the first thing I'd do would be to experiment with the controls on the guitar, and then the controls on the amp, and back and forth like that til I find "that sound" whatever it may be. Electric guitars seem to me to be such hotrods, you can do so many things with just one guitar.

That's what I'm saying. It's hard think of an alt-country tone that can't be found on a 360 with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.
